Take A Minute To Sing Episode 3: Singing On Pitch
Episode notes:
- You CAN learn to sing on pitch
- The vast majority of people who think they are “tone-deaf” are NOT. (read the book “Musicopholia” by famed Dr. Oliver Sachs)
- Practice speaking the word “Hey!” as if you are calling out someone across the room. Project, but don’t scream. This teaches you how to bring your vocal cords together correctly.
- Rehearse this same exercise by matching a pitch on piano or guitar. Slide your voice QUICKLY to note and trust your instincts.
- Trust your ear to hear whether the note is correct. If not, decide if it is too low or too high.
- If you are still having trouble, touch your index finger lightly on your adam’s apple (larynx) and allow it to move gently, but never swallowed while singing.
- Repeat this vocal exercise several times a day while holding the note out and relaxing your throat open.
