Take A Minute To Sing Episode 4: Ah Vowels

Episode notes:

  • Understanding how to shape the mouth for each vowel is important to getting the most sound with the least amount of effort.
  • The “AH” vowel sound is the most important, because it is the foundation for all the vowels
  • The “AH” is in the middle of the vowel spectrum and the most balanced sound your voice can make. (best balance between brightness and warmth)
  • Learn a good “AH” (Bach) and start progressively rounding the lips to cover sounds like “AW” (ball), “OH” (boat), “OU” (book), and “OO” (boot).
  • Start again with the “AH” and shape the mouth horizontally to learn sounds like “AE” (back), “EH” (bet), “AY” (bay), “IH” (bit), and “EE” (beat”.
  • Practice daily with scales on different vowels and sing a familiar melody using each vowel position.
